Climate Change 2019 – Science vs Propaganda

As the Trends editors have long argued, activists tend to exaggerate the impacts of climate change while underestimating the costs of tackling it.  This is clearly illustrated by their reaction to the latest U.S. climate assessment.

As far as it went, the report itself remained largely sober and scientific.  Unfortunately, it simply ignored the much of the available evidence on climate change associated with of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations.  Consider a few facts:

  1. Temperatures have been rising in “fits and starts” since 1850 (roughly the end of the Little Ice Age, when glaciers began to recede); the latest research suggests that mankind accounts for about half-a-degree of the rise totaling 1.5 degrees over that time.  Given this fact, the Trends editor agree, it’s unfair to refer to anthropogenic warming as a “hoax,” but we see little reason to call it an “existential crisis,” either.

  1. Sea levels have been rising for about 22,000 years and at a more or less constant rate for the past 8,000 years...
